Starting a new relationship can always be challenging, whether it’s a new boy/girl-friend, business partner or client. With all, though, communication is the key to a smoother transition. As professional consultants, we have to put our clients’ interests above our own, which means we have to crawl inside their heads a bit, learn all about their business, their hopes, dreams, fears, strengths and weaknesses. Without knowing the starting point, we can’t possibly map out the most efficient path to their desired outcome. And often, as we ask the many questions we need to have answers to, we find that even the client is in the dark about a lot of the critical stepping stones to success.
